The .info domain name extension, along with .biz and several others, was recently added to the list of TLDs (top-level domains).

.info domain names intend to fill a gap created by information-based websites that do not fit into a commercial (.com), network (.net) or organisation (.org) category.

Whilst a .com is preferable even for an information-driven website, simply because of its global appeal and recognition, this is not always practical. Dot com domain names are disappearing faster than tropical rainforests, and as such a much prettier .info domain name might be available where the equivalent .com isn’t.

For the right type of website, .info is a great choice, and comes highly recommended if you cannot find a better domain name as a .com.
